Verdiem Drives Increased IT Energy Efficiency With Launch of SURVEYOR 4.0
New Software Supports Microsoft Vista and Delivers Greater Control Over PC Power Consumption To Reduce Energy Costs and Help Cut Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Seattle - March 27, 2007 - To help organizations seeking to reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions, Verdiem, the leading developer of power management software for PC networks, today announced general availability of SURVEYOR 4.0. The latest version of the company's flagship offering includes several new features to simplify administration, tighten security, and improve reporting. As a result, customers can gain even more control over their IT power consumption while retaining the rapid deployment and set-it-and-forget-it ease of previous versions of the product.
"CIOs are actively seeking ways for their organizations to save energy and dollars," said John Davies, vice president, Green Research, AMR Research. "While there have been recent innovations in energy management on the server side by companies such as IBM and Hewlett-Packard, not much has been developed on the client (or PC) side of the equation beyond meeting the EPA's Energy Star requirements. However, Verdiem's SURVEYOR provides a solution by allowing companies to centrally measure and manage PC Power settings. By reducing power consumption with products like SURVEYOR, companies not only save money, they reduce our reliance on non-renewable power sources."
The newest version of Verdiem's SURVEYOR incorporates several new capabilities to enhance usability and scalability for enterprise implementations. In addition to supporting Microsoft's Vista operating system, SURVEYOR 4.0 includes the following upgrades:
Wake-on-WANTM functionality, which allows administrators to wake or turn on all PCs on a network from a central point to enable on-demand software updates, patches and maintenance;
Increased control over SURVEYOR settings and configuration, which improves security and increases potential for savings;
AutoGroup capabilities, which enable network administrators to assign power management policies based on a flexible rule set, so configurations can be set once and remain in place even as new PCs are moved and added;
Expanded reporting provides out-of-the-box reports on energy consumption, energy consumption period comparisons, and estimates of overall PC energy demand.
On average, Verdiem customers cut energy consumption by 200 kWh per PC per year. Verdiem and its customers are helping to reduce global warming, CO2 emissions by eliminating IT energy waste. Based on its existing customer base, annual use of Verdiem technology reduces greenhouse gas emissions at a rate equal to taking more than 8,000 passenger cars off the road for an entire year, or conserving 4,317,988 gallons of gasoline.
"Increasingly, IT departments are being asked to do their part in meeting organizations' environmental and sustainability goals," said Kevin Klustner, CEO, Verdiem. "To accomplish this, energy and environmental safeguards must be built into an IT department's strategic program. Verdiem's focus is straightforward; we help CIOs eliminate energy waste on PCs and are working to improve energy management on all IT devices to help organizations reduce costs and meet sustainability goals."
